Wednesday Afternoon Session

Played with a someone for the 1st time (or maybe 2nd) in the local afternoon club game. Due to poor weather and the holidays it was a pretty small turnout. System played was a fairly typical intermediate level 2/1. Had a decent session, about 49%. Just out of the points in strat B.

Recaps

Here's a bidding problem from the game:

MP pairs, White vs Red, you pick up in 2nd seat:

ATxx
xx
T9x
Qxxx

RHO deals and passes, you pass, LHO opens 1c, partner makes a takeout double. I bid 1s, LHO bids 2c, and partner bids 2d, showing a good suit and a big hand. I decide to make a bit of a courtesy raise to 3d, and partner goes to 5. Off 1 when partner doesn't find the Ah singleton offside.

Do you think my hand was worth a 3d raise?

was 3NT viable ?

nope. Partner had a spade void. It doesn't play well.

Your hand is worth of raise. One simple way to evaluate is to use principle of box. Your first call is 1S and promised 0-7 Hp. So now after partner bids another suit where are you in thse 0-7 - you are almost max. I beleive this is Mr. Lawrence advice.

Yes. Automatic raise - very strong hand on the auction. Failing to bid 3D or take some other serious action would be error.
