This is the system I play with my favorite partner, in highly condensed form. Credit for the system goes to my partner Arthur Moore, who designed the system. I just play it.
System: Std American Canape
1NT Range: 12+ - 15
Systems over 1NT:
2c - stayman (Maybe no 4 card major). Smolen in play after 2d response.
The sequence 1NT - 2c - 2d - 2x shows a 4 card suit and about 8+ to 10-, a weak invite to 3NT.
2d - 5+ Hearts
2h - 5+ Spades
2s - 5+ (Usually 6+) Clubs
2NT - 5+ (Usually 6+) Diamonds
3c - 5-5 Majors, GF
3d - 5-5 Minors, GF
3h - 6-4 Majors, GF
3s - Minor Suit Stayman
4c - Gerber
4d/4h - Texas Transfer
4s - Minor Suit slam interest
2NT Range: 21-22. Puppet, Jacoby & Texas Transfers, MSS are in play
3NT: Gambling, could have an outside value
Minor Openings: 3+, typically 10-15 with long minor, or 15-20 balanced
or twosuited. Could be Canape with longer 2nd suit (inc a 5 or 6 card
major) and reversing values.
Major Openings: 4+, usually 10-15, Strong hands start with 1m and
reverse. Could be Canape with less than reversing values and a 5 or 6
card minor.
2/1: Not a GF, just std good 9+
1NT: Not forcing
Minor Raises: Inverted
Major Raises: Limit Raises + Fit Showing Jump Shifts at 3 level,
Splinters, J2NT, and a few other toys.
2 Bids: 2c std GF, 2d/2h/2s are ACOL 2 bids, 7.5+ playing tricks, forcing 1 rd, Next Suit negative, all other responses show values of at least an AK or so. 2NT shows the next suit.
Classic good weak two hands, such as AKJTxx xxx xxx x tend to be opened
at the 1 level.
Slam Bidding: 1430, Serious 3NT, Lots of cuebidding, a few other
situational gadgets
Misc Gadgets: X-Y-Z, Lots of Lebensohl (Over a reverse, JS, etc)
In Competition:
1NT overcall, 13-16 Sys On, 10-14 Balancing NT Sys Off
2NT overcall, 2 lowest
Micheals
Weak jump overcalls, 2NT is Ogust if available.
Negative free bids (New suits by responder after an overcall are non-forcing)
Cuebid shows values, may or may not have a fit for partners suit
Jump cue (e.g. 1d (1s) 3s) is a very nice hand with a big fit for partner.
